My fellow opponauts, there was a non gawker article a bit ago about racing drivers' training regimen that I really enjoyed. I think it focused on Indy. I still have some friends who don't believe pro drivers are athletes.

A local delorian for your time

I always ask if they've ever had their power steering fail, then tell them to imagine that times 10,000, for five hours straight. That doesn't really change their opinion, but that's because they're dumb or something.

I feel the same. Just plop those people into a 300cc go kart for twenty minutes, and if they have arms as weak as mine, their muscles will be shaking for the rest of the day.

No dude racing is easy. Hit the gas, hit the brakes. What's so hard about that. Anyone can do that. . .

It took several years of haranguing, but I finally got my boss to admit that racing drivers are athletic, even though he still won't say that they are athletes .

A car with a rack built for power steering will be even harder to drive than a car built not having power steering in mind. I had my power steering and brakes fail simultaneously on my Skyline on the highway and that was nightmare fuel. I had a car without power steering in the past and it was nowhere near that difficult to turn.
